Stockholm/ Sörmland – Lakes & Castles

Stockholm/ Sörmland – Lakes & Castles

Discover Stockholm, the beautiful capital of Sweden and the fantastic countryside of Sörmland with rolling hills, lakes & castles during your cycling tour in Sweden. You’ll start with one night in Stockholm and you’ll get to explore the city with all its rich history, architecture and nice restaurants, all surrounded by water among the city’s islands. As Stockholm is made up of several islands, water flows through the entire city and you can see people kayaking or taking a ferry out into the archipelago from the city center. When you pedal out from Stockholm you’ll soon reach Drottningholm Castle, which is the first of the castles you’ll get to visit during this cycling vacation. In the Sörmland region you’ll cycle in a landscape with small hills, several lakes, and small, charming villages such as Mariefred, Gnesta and Trosa.

Your accommodations during the week are a mix of good quality city hotels, calm countryside hotels and one castle/ manor house.

You’ll mainly bike on small country roads with little traffic and some parts on dedicated cycle paths. Approximately 50% is paved, and 50% on calm, nice gravel roads. The daily stages are between 30-60 km, with an elevation of 350-600 m per day.

Highlights

  • Cycle through the capital’s vibrant neighborhoods and iconic landmarks.
  • Selaön Island: Sweden’s largest lake island, featuring scenic gravel paths and Mälsåker Castle.
  • Drottningholm Palace: A UNESCO World Heritage site and the King and Queen’s residence.
  • Stay in a historic 18th-century castle, surrounded by beautiful English-style gardens and serene lake views.
