Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival to Halmstad

Check in to the centrally located hotel. Hopefully you will have time to visit this small summer town.

Day 2 Halmstad - Falkenberg – Varberg

From Halmstad city the ride will continue west, towards one of the most beloved beaches of the west coast, Tylösand, followed by the beaches of Frösakull, Ringenäs and Vilshärad. After this the path turns towards east and connects to Kustvägen, the coast road.
Along the way you’ll pass several beautiful nature reserves with unique beach meadows both before and after the charming village of Steninge. Right around Steninge beach the landscape will change from barren and stony into a lush agricultural setting. The route continues through the town of Falkenberg, one of the oldest of Hallands’ medieval towns. At Falkenberg, you’ll bike to the train station and take the train to Varberg, where you’ll stay tonight. Either you bike directly to your hotel or you can bike up to the fortress if you are up for a challenge, or do a short detour south a few km along the coastal path.
The total stretch today is 57 km, but if you choose not to take the train and instead bike all the way to Varberg, you’ll bike 96 km.

Day 3 Varberg – Kungsbacka

North of Varberg, the scenery changes – sandy beaches become rocky cliffs and the first islands begin to appear, like Getterön, Balgö and Vendelsö. Further on you will get to a quiet stretch along the ocean and the beautiful beaches of Åsa.
Further up the route we recommend a small detour to visit Tjolöholm Castle, Sweden’s only Tudor castle, before continuing to Fjärås Bräcka, famous for its 100 standing stones at the Li grave field. The route continues on small roads along fields and horse pastures until you reach Kungsbacka, the final stop for today and one of the largest trade centres in western Sweden.
Possible to shorten to 65 km. Also possible to shorten to 48 km by biking Varberg – Åsa, and take the train from Åsa to Kungsbacka.

Day 4 Kungsbacka – Göteborg

This last stretch of the route runs along the Kungsbacka fjord, back towards the ocean. You’ll pass the small seaside village of Särö, where royalty and the Gothenburg society met up for amusement in the early twentieth century. The trail continues along cliffs, lush forests, bays and small harbours, offering plenty of places to swim or just relax. As you approach central Gothenburg, you will pass Nya Varvet and the Klippan Culture Reserve and continue along Göta älv until you reach your final destination: the Göteborg Opera and the Lilla Bommen harbour. Welcome to Gothenburg!
62 km. Possible to shorten to 41 km by skipping the Onsala peninsula.

10/10 Experience of a part of the Kattegattleden
Gunnar and team have done an amazing job planning this trip for clients intent on doing the route on a self-guided basis. Everything, including accommodation, luggage transfer and even 24/7 queries on operating the bike (such as removing the Bosch battery cell) were expertly and professionally handled. Gunnar was also very responsive to questions I had. Most importantly, I was able to experience the countryside and scenic beauty of West Sweden in style- on a e-bike. Gunnar's recommendations were also great. I ended up doing a short detour to Saltholmen Ferry Terminal and then took a quick 3 hour visit to Styrso and Donso. Small islands, but quaint and scenic! I have done multi-day guided hikes in New Zealand, but this is my first time doing a multi-day self-guided bicycle tour solo. I could not recommend a better company than Evertrek to do it with. Free and easy, yet questions are always readily answered and expertly handled. Thank you Gunnar for facilitating my journey and giving me such a wonderful introduction to the scenic beauty of the Swedish countryside!

Fabulous bike trip
Thanks for a great holiday Gunnar. We loved the variety of the scenery with sections along the coast and others through small towns or in rural areas. Everything was very well organised and went seamlessly. It would have been good to have more advanced warning to bring a power bank because, although the app was excellent, it chewed through the power so we had to switch it on only when we weren’t clear about which way to go. The hotel in Varberg wasn’t really set up to store bikes overnight. We had to push our heavy e-bikes up two flights of stairs to a function room on a higher floor. But these are minor issues. We would certainly recommend this ride with Evertrek.
