Stockholm Island hopping

Stockholm Island hopping - Cycling in the Archipelago

Stockholm is one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. The city consists of 14 islands, connected by 57 bridges. The Stockholm archipelago is a unique place with its 30 000 islands. Cliffs, sandy beaches, green meadows and enchanting forests create a magnificent nature experience, with breathtaking views over the water. No wonder that National Geographics recently named Stockholm’s archipelago one of the 25 best places to travel to in 2025.

You will island hop across a variety of islands in the Stockholm archipelago. You will visit picturesque villages and cycle through protected nature reserves, where you will experience stillness, enchanted forests, glittering lakes and a wealth of wildlife.

You will also visit the idyllic island of Sandön, with its picturesque village Sandhamn, which is probably the most famous place in the Stockholm archipelago; known for its bustling life, beautiful houses and long sandy beaches. Fans of Nordic Noir might also recognize Sandhamn from Stieg Larsson’s the “Millenium” series and from Viveca Sten’s the “Sandhamn Murders” series.

You’ll mainly bike on small country roads with little traffic and some parts on dedicated cycle paths. A shorter distance is on a busier road. Approximately 60% is paved, and 40% on calm gravel roads. The daily stages are between 30 and 55 km, with an elevation of 337-635 m per day.
